What is a staff health check?

A staff health check is reflective of a standard NHS Health Check and can help you to better understand your health as well as your risk of complications such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke.

Staff health checks can be accessed by any member of #TeamGateshead staff – removing any usual barriers to entry such as age restrictions.

Ran by Pharmacy students from Newcastle University, health checks can include height, weight and waist measuring, a blood pressure test, a chloesterol test and a blood sugar level test.

You will also be asked questions around your health such as around your smoking and drinking habits or whether your relatives have had any medical conditions. Depending on your response, you might then be signposted to support services around these topics.

When do health checks take place?

As this service is ran by Pharmacy students from Newcastle University, these take place during term-time. We always run these on Fridays – generally speaking they’re on or around the first Friday of each month during academic teaching times. Outside of these times, we operate a waiting list and get in touch with colleagues as soon as we have new dates.

Appointments are available for the following times:

• 10:30am – 11:00am
• 11:00am – 11:30am
• 11:30am – 12:00pm
• 12:00pm – 12:30pm
• 12:30pm – 1:00pm
• 1:00pm – 1:30pm
• 1:30pm – 2:00pm

During times where dates are not offered on the form itself, you will be added to a waiting list.
