Access our Cycle to Work Scheme

Two cycle to work schemes are available to our colleagues.

Cyclescheme:

Cyclescheme helps you to spread the cost of a bicycle purchase via monthly salary deductions, and can help you save between 26-40% on the cost of new bike and kit.

Green Commute Initiative:

If you’re looking for a bike over £1,000 then the Green Commute Initiative is the cycle to work scheme for you – especially for those looking at electric bikes which tend to cost a lot more.

GCI’s pioneering scheme was the first to have no £1,000 limit, allowing employers to set their own scheme limits and again, colleagues can benefit from savings via salary deductions. For more information, please click to download an info guide.

NHS North East Wellbeing and Outdoor Activity Group

Amongst the many activities organised and ran by the NHS North East Wellbeing and Outdoor Activity Group are regular hiking events.

To find out when and where the latest group walks are planned to take place, just visit and join their dedicated Facebook group.

The Wellbeing and Outdoor Activity Group was founded by Gateshead Health colleague Fior Sayer, and many of its events are often ran in association with local company Alexander Adventures. The group was extended from QE to all North East NHS colleagues in early 2022.

Step count challenges

The health and wellbeing team at Gateshead Health traditionally organise two step count challenges per year for colleagues, encouraging us all to be that bit more active, get out and about and enjoy the benefits of doing so.

Challenges tend to take place annually in May to coincide with National Walking Month, as well as later in the year in or around October.

Current champions:

May 2022’s competition saw four leagues with target step counts per person per day of 3000, 7000, 10,000 and 13,000 steps.

Our winners were:

• 3000: Diabetes & Endocrinology
• 7000: ECG Ladies
• 10,000: Trust Board
• 13,000: Ward 26 (Team 2)
