    Catering at Gateshead Health

    Catering facilities and options at Gateshead Health are by and large provided by our wonderful QE Facilities colleagues. The best place to learn more about their facilities is over on the staff intranet, where menus are also updated daily.

    The Hub – QE Hospital:

    Most easily-accessible via the Windy Nook Entrance of the main building, The Hub underwent a dramatic transformation in 2021 as part of efforts to provide staff with a more relaxed, enjoyable space to enjoy a meal, cuppa and/or break.

    The largest of our catering facilities, The Hub offers a wide range of hot meals, drinks and snacks daily. You’ll often find teams – including team health and wellbeing, holding stalls at the bottom end of The Hub, taking advantage of the high population area to try reach our colleagues.

    The Park Deli – Bensham Hospital

    Refurbished and relaunched in May 2022, our Bensham Café became The Park Deli after our Facilities team worked tirelessly to bring the facility up to standards with The Hub following its 2021 refurbishment.

    In addition to new breakfast bar style seating, there are now also two designated meeting hubs within the Deli, and colleagues can visit to enjoy up a range of hot meals, snacks and drinks. With Balance benches also located on-site, there’s a place to enjoy a bite to eat in the sun, too!

    The Beacon – Tranwell Unit

    Recently launched as part of dramatic rennovation of the Tranwell Unit, which will see the building become the Trust’s new state-of-the-art cancer centre.

    The facility offers staff and patients a bright space to enjoy a refreshment – and also offers an outdoor seating area for when the weather permits a break in the sun!

    24/7 Hot Food

    Please note that hot food options are available around the clock for all Trust and QE Facilities colleagues, and can be sourced at The Hub (QE Hospital) via our steam vending machines. Colleagues who work in the community are also welcome to make use of this facility.

    A temporary provision of free frozen meals has also recently been added in The Hub and Peter Smith Surgery Centre, where a freezer and microwave can now be found. All staff working out-of-hours shifts are free to use this, inclusive of all community colleagues.

    External catering providers

    In addition to the catering options and facilities led by QE Facilities, there are also some external caterers on-site at the QE Hospital. All of these options are located just inside the main entrance (ECC), down the stairs. There is also a lift, ensuring these are accessible for all.

     

    Costa Coffee:

    A branch of the national coffee chain, serving hot drinks and a selection of sandwiches, snacks, cakes and biscuits. Costa is open:

    • Monday – Friday: 07:30am – 6:00pm
    • Saturday: 09:00am – 4:30pm
    • Sunday: 09:30am – 4:30pm

     

    Subway:

    A branch of the national sandwich chain, Subway serves sub roll sandwiches amongst other things in a variety of sizes, where you pick your own fillings. Both hot and cold food is available, including breakfast options. Subway is open:

    • Monday – Friday: 06:30am – 9:00pm
    • Saturday & Sunday: 08:00am – 9:00pm

     

    Amigo:

    Amigo is the hospital’s grocery shop, selling food-to-go such as sandwiches as well as a small selection of groceries including microwave meals, soups, confectionary, magazines, newspapers and more. The shop also has a cash machine which does not charge, and is open:

    • Monday – Friday: 08:00am – 08:00pm
    • Sunday: 10:00am – 6:00pm
