One current area of focus for the Occupational Health and Wellbeing team is providing, promoting or accommodating more opportunities to get physically active for our staff.

Feedback from both participants at Managing Well as well as our fantastic Health & Wellbeing Ambassadors suggested that one particularly popular idea would be a netball team.

Further to this, the team has since identified a women’s Social Summer Leagues starting w/c 16th April, with various leagues on Tuesdays & Wednesdays at Kenton High School and Thursdays at John Spence High School (North Shields).

While we appreciate the travel time isn’t ideal, organisers have kindly suggested that were we to put a team(s) forward, we could pick a start time (These are 6:30pm, 7:15pm, 8:00pm) so there’d be a bit of flexibility there too. All ages and abilities are welcome. The organiser is also willing to put on a session or two of ‘intro to netball’ sessions for anyone interested who would like a taster before committing.

With a tight turnaround to get a team in before the start of the summer season, we’re asking any interested colleagues to complete our sign-up form if you’re interested. We’ll then gauge interest, split people by days and hopefully get a team (or teams!) up and running.

Fancy footy, tag-rugby or pilates?

Health and Wellbeing Ambassador Mirza Ali (Sonny) has very helpfully and kindly led on the launch of a weekly five-a-side football group which he hopes to kick-off for the first time tomorrow, Thursday 21st March, at Cardinal Hume between 4pm – 5pm. Sonny is still looking for more numbers to get involved so if this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please email [email protected].

Colleagues can also get involved in free tag rugby taster sessions being led by Try Tag Rugby, with three sessions taking place in Newcastle in early April. To find out more about this opportunity and how it could lead to the chance to get involved in a team, visit the news item here.

Those two come in addition to our weekly on-site pilates sessions at the QE, which you can also find out more about (including how to be added to our waiting list!) over on our dedicated pilates page!
