Today marks National Fitness Day 2023, with these year’s theme ‘Your Health is for Life’ encouraging people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to recognise and take advantage of the life-long physical and mental health benefits of staying active.

Gateshead Health recently partnered with BodyHacks Fitness, a gym based in Heaton who are offering heavily discounted memberships to #TeamGateshead colleagues – and who also offer online memberships for those who are looking to access help from home. Showing his support for our staff, Joe from BodyHacks even joined us at our Allied Health Professional Conference in Gateshead last week, sharing more about his offer and how he can help staff.

BodyHacks became the latest in a long string of local gyms to offer #TeamGateshead colleagues a discount, with more available across gyms in Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and beyond over on our Discounted Gym Memberships page.

And if you feel like your body is stopping you from being active for whatever reason, you might be interested in learning more about our Occupational Health and Wellbeing Physiotherapy service, which has helped dozens of staff to manage and/or overcome aches and pains – whether through the fantastic guides held on our Physiotherapy page or through referrals to the service.

A number of free platforms are also available to help staff keep active, including Fit4TheFight – an app created by NHS staff for NHS staff, the FitOn app which hosts home workouts from celeb trainers, the NHS Couch to 5K  for those who are struggling for a starting point and more. Just visit our dedicated page for these here!

Also helping keep colleagues active is the launch of on-site pilates, with two 4-week pilates programmes kicking off yesterday. To find out more about our pilates offer and how to get involved, visit our Activites page or the news item we posted to highlight the launch of the programme(s).
