Local organisation If U Care Share has announced that it has secured funding through Health Education England and partnered with the North East and North Cumbria ICS to deliver fully-funded courses for staff working in Trusts throughout the region, inclusive of Gateshead Helth.

If U Care Share is a suicide prevention charity based out of Chester-le-Street with extensive experience of supporting people who are at risk of or who have been bereaved by suicide, and have developed a number of training programmes. In 2023, the organisation visited the QE Hospital to deliver numerous sessions to #TeamGateshead colleagues.

STOP Programme:

On offer from If U Care Share is the charity’s specific health-service focused STOP programme training, which will explore what support is needed for those who may be bereaved by suicide and how individuals can access this support. Elsewhere, attendees will gain better understanding of the impact of suicide on both individuals and colleagues in communities and workplaces, and the training will also acknowledge and explore the importance of how we support those who are at risk of suicide.

By participating, those who attend will have an increased knowledge around suicides, signs that someone may be suicidal, how to intervene if someone is suicidal, how best to support those who are bereaved by suicide and improve their confidence when it comes to intervening and feeling able to support colleagues who may be at risk or who are bereaved by suicide.

Colleagues who sign up are expected to attend any course they book. A minimum of a 5-day cancellation notice is in operation, with a £75 cancellation fee chargable if you do not cancel early enough. Those who attend must work for a trust in the region, engage positively in the sessions, notify the charity around any accessibility requirements if relevant, complete any feedback forms as requested by If U Care Share and bring their own lunch.
