This month congratulations go to Dr Richard Athey who has been named January’s Star of the Month by the Executive Team for his outstanding contribution.

Dr Athey who works within Ward 21/25 was nominated by Perry Sissons and Dr M Mohamed and was awarded with a voucher for either an afternoon tea for two or a treat tray from The Hub at the QE as a token of appreciation for his fantastic efforts.

Why Dr Athey is a star:

Dr Athey constantly sets a shining example of how to be a doctor and a gentleman. Often single-handily running ward 25 and ward 21 and always has time to help colleagues. Very approachable, patient-centred approach and always goes the extra mile to help patients and colleagues. Loved by all that work with him but remains incredibly humble. Truly an inspiration to all. Deserves far more credit than he receives as the hospital could not manage without him. Additionally manages to find time to lead regular teaching sessions for trainees and help with training opportunities.

Dr Athey shows extraordinary commitment to his job. He takes it upon himself to provide exceptional support and service to the COTE department. Dr Athey is caring, kind, knowledgeable and yet very humble. He is very approachable, creates a sense of belonging and inclusion. He supports other COTE wards on continuous basis. On numerous occasions, when the ward is busy, I’ve seen him updating families in the most sympathetic ways. He organizes the departmental teaching. He is a real role model and a leader. The COTE department is fortunate to have him.

A massive congratulations and thanks goes to Dr Athey, as well as Dr M Mohamed and Perry Sissons for their nomination. We hope you enjoy your prize.
