Newly-released figures show that Gateshead Health colleagues were the most active throughout the North East and North Cumbria region in taking up the free support available to them to help them quit smoking.

Figures show that during the first quarter of 2023, more colleagues at Gateshead took up the support packages available than at any other Trust which submitted data, which included the likes of the Northumbria, North Cumbria and Tees, Esk and Wear Valley trusts as well as others.

When opting to quit, colleagues can choose to access a course of free nicotine replacement therapy products or a refillable e-Cigarette (vape) to assist in their quit attempt, and can also access a one-to-one support programme with a dedicated stop smoking advisor. Those with a busy schedule or irregular work patterns can even gain free premium access to the Smokefree App, providing access 24/7 quitting advice and support at your fingertips.

Work is currently ongoing to secure the long-term future of this support offer, with a switch in how this support is provided planned to come into effect from October. If you’re a smoker considering making a quit attempt, we advise you to get in touch on 0191 445 8144 or email [email protected] to ensure you can access the service at its best
