Colleagues are reminded that those who experience symptoms of menopause can now access Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) products for less through a new prescription prepayment certificate (PPC), which launched back in April 2023.

The certificate is expected to help over 400,000 women save hundreds of pounds per year – with a year’s worth of HRT products available at just £19.30 with a PPC.

If you’ve been prescribed an eligible HRT medicine from the NHS, you can get a HRT PPC which will cover all of your eligible prescriptions for a 12 month period, regardless of how many different medicines you need or use. There are no limits on the number of items you can get with the PPC while it is valid, and you’re guaranteed to save money if you will purchase more than 2 prescription items over the 12 month timeframe.

Those that have prescriptions for medicines which are not eligible under the PPC could still save through a 3 or 12 month standard PPC, which you can learn more about here.

Around three quarters of women experience symptoms of menopause, with 1 in 4 experiencing servere symptoms which have a serious impact on their quality of life. As menopausal symptoms are caused by oestrogen fluctations, symptoms can also affect other genders.

To purchase a HRT PPC, visit the NHS Business Services Authority website – where you can also find an eligibility checker for free NHS prescriptions, a list of eligible medicines so you can check your eligibility for a HRT PPC and further information around standard PPCs.
