Mental Health Defusers are colleagues who have been trained in post-criticial incident debriefing, and who are there to offer supportive conversations with colleagues in the immediate aftermath of a traumatic experience.
Those who are trained as Defusers can provide staff with an opportunity to discuss what has happened, their involvement and the feelings they’re experiencing and to signpost to further support available. Doing so within the first 72 hours of such an incident is proven to be beneficial to those who’ve experienced trauma, reducing their likelihood of experiencing post-traumatic stress syndrome and supporting them to manage the emotional impact of such experiences.
Our aim is to always have a defuser available – please do not hesitate to get in touch with the contacts below in case of emergency.
