The Occupational Health and Wellbeing Team will hold stalls for staff between 11:30am – 1:00pm this Wednesday (The Park Deli at Bensham Hospital) and Thursday (opposite Costa Coffee in the QE Hospital Atrium), aimed at helping colleagues who are hoping to improve their health in 2025.

Stalls will aim to help colleagues looking to bolster their health and wellbeing in the year ahead, and will promote various health, fitness and lifestyle options available to help colleagues make healthier choices – regardless of whether your other aims including being more active, losing weight or otherwise!

A range of resources on physical wellbeing can be found anytime here on the Balance website. To try help make information easier to find based on your 2025 health goals, we’ve included pages related to some of YouGov’s list of the most common new year’s resolutions for 2025 below!

Save more/spend less

Our financial wellbeing area is home to a range of support and information across the topic of finance – particularly around saving more and spending less! Most notably, our NHS discounts and partners page features information on how services like Blue Light Card, Health Service Discounts, Red Guava and more can help you save money. Elsewhere, we even have pages for local bars and restaurants, entertainment spots and gyms we’ve partnered up with to provide exclusive discounts for #TeamGateshead colleagues.

Get fit/exercise more:

While our discounted gym membership page will be enough for some – we know that others might prefer a more social or even more private environment when it comes to getting more active. With that in mind, our activities page is a great place to learn more about on-site clubs like our pilates classes & HIIT Circuit classes, our netball team or even learn more about the NHS North East Outdoor Activities Club.

Better health:

Working towards improving your general health probably best starts with better understanding your current health and where you might be able to make improvements. Our free on-site staff health checks are a fantastic resource for this, are fully reflective of standard NHS health checks and also help Newcastle University Pharmacy students get real-life practice of conducting them, doing them a favour too! You can request a health check at one of our monthly clinics anytime through our sign-up form.

Eat well:

Healthy eating can be a challenge, so it makes sense to lean on support and expertise to make this easier for you. This might be through our partnerships with the likes of Slimming World or West Denton Nutrition, or even through the NHS Digital Weight Management Programme for Staff, a three-month weight loss plan programme specifically targeted to NHS colleagues.

Drink less alcohol:

Those looking to cut down on alcohol intake should look no further than our partnership with DrinkCoach, who provide up to six free and completely confidential one-to-one coaching sessions with a qualified alcohol treatment specialist.

Quit smoking:

And those who are out to make a smoking quit attempt in 2025 can lean on our colleagues in QE Facilities, whose stop smoking support includes up to 12-weeks of free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products as well as further support including premium membership to an app and more.
